"Did you know that hope uniquely predicts objective academic achievement above intelligence, personality, and prior academic achievement?

When we start the year off knowing students' strengths we can use this information in many ways to encourage an asset-based language in our classroom. Learn about many offline and online activities you can do with students that help them learn about their strengths, use those strengths for learning, and engage in a caring classroom culture.

For many families that had one or multiple adults who were able to work from home during the pandemic, they were able to witness the virtual learning experiences of their children firsthand. For some, they were even able to create entirely different learning experiences with the collective help of their neighbors—forming what became known as "pandemic pods." But, as soon as schools opened their doors back up, the pods went away as quickly as they had formed. What did the pods teach us that shouldn't be lost as the pandemic wanes?

Prior to European contact, Indigenous peoples throughout North America had finely tuned pedagogical and community practices that had been developed over thousands of years of wisdom sharing. There was no standardized, one-size-fits-all system. There was a recognition of the gifts each individual brought to one's community and a daily search for how those gifts could be applied for the betterment of all. What can we learn from that history and how Indigenous communities have continued applying these ways-of-knowing today?

In recognition of the challenges we've faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, it's imperative that we do the best we can to support the well-being of the learners we serve. Thrively and WE Schools have partnered to build an engaging well-being learning experience focused on developing healthy identities for learners of all ages.
